Of the numerous citrus specimens in the museum’s collection, this is the sole lemon. Its cousin the lime seems to be regularly cast aside by the inebriated, while the lemon is handled with care.

In its dried state, the ends of this plump lemon appear exaggerated and proboscis-like. The oil glands on its peel (exocarp) are very visible, though the specimen emits very little of its original scent.  NEXT >
