Dehydrated Small Navel Orange,
Cross-section

Citrus x sinensis
Donated by Robin Oleck
1999

Weight: 23 g
Diameter: 5 cm

bisected dehydrated orange, one half facing down, the other up, sticker

This orange was found in a household with several pets. This may account for the specimen’s unconventional excavation site behind the refrigerator. The specimen was bisected by museum staff in order to reveal its interior for research. The inside is dark and sinewy, not unlike the flesh of the museum’s lime slice.

This orange specimen is similar to a whole orange in the collection.

The PLU (price look-up) label states that the specimen was grown in California, and is coded #4013, which identifies it as a small navel orange.  NEXT >
