dehydrated, somewhat flattened grapefruit half with central vertical stem-like protrusion

This grapefruit was cut in half and its contents eaten, after which it managed to evade discovery for an extended period of time. Upon drying, its uneaten central column of pith formed a symmetrical fountain shape. Due to the brittle nature of the dehydrated tissue, parts of the specimen’s fountain-like column have since crumbled.

The grapefruit-half shrunk as it dried, and the basin of the fruit has flattened considerably from its original hemispherical form.  NEXT >
